somebody refused
to let me quit.

That is the whole reason this exists. I am simply trying to be that person for somebody else.

I am Grace Takyi. I teach French to Ghanaians who were told, early and often, that it was not for them.

My students are absolute beginners, exam candidates, traders and professionals working across francophone West Africa, and schoolchildren meeting the language for the first time. Some are seventy. Some are nine.

I teach out loud and without shame, and I explain grammar in language a human being can actually hold. Every full lesson goes on YouTube free, because a data bundle should be the only entry fee.

Around the videos I run live webinars, in-person seminars for schools and workplaces, and free advocacy sessions in basic schools. And I stay in the WhatsApp community, where the real work of not quitting happens.

If you are somewhere in the middle of this and thinking about stopping — message me. That is not an empty invitation. It is the job.

The name ESFEL

ESFEL stands for École savoir français en ligne — an online school for French knowledge. The name is French because the promise is: you will not be taught about French from a distance. You will be brought inside it.

What I teach from Four beliefs
01

Fluency is not a talent

Nobody is born with a gift for French. People are born into circumstances that let them keep going. I try to be one of those circumstances.

02

Free is not lesser

The YouTube lessons are not samples of a better paid thing. They are the whole curriculum, taught properly, with nothing held back.

03

Shame kills languages

More learners are stopped by embarrassment than by grammar. Every room I run is built so being wrong out loud costs you nothing.

04

Start earlier

By the time a pupil reaches JHS, their opinion of French is set. That is why I keep walking into basic schools.
